Rockwall High School Jacket Backers May “Meador Auto Athletes of the Month”
Trey Ochoa receives “Meador Auto Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month” Award.
The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers have selected Trey Ochoa as the “Meador Auto Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month”. Ochoa, a 12th grade member of the Varsity Baseball Team was nominated by Coach Jeff Payne and chosen by the Jacket Backers board. During the month of April, Ochoa has a batting average of .400 this month, 8 runs scored, 3 RBI’s, 5 stolen bases, 1 save as a pitcher, and only 2 errors on defense. “I want every ball hit to Trey when we are on defense. Our pitchers know a ground ball on the left side is going to result in good things for us. Our leadoff hitter who gets us going, our best defensive player playing the most important defensive position at shortstop, our team leader” said Coach Payne. If you would like more information about this topic, or to schedule an interview, please contact Steve Arenas. |
Bailey Wallace and Raena Eldridge both receive “Meador Auto Lady Jackets Co-Athletes of the Month” Award.
The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers have selected Bailey Wallace and Raena Eldridge as the “Meador Auto Lady Jacket Athletes of the Month”. Wallace, a 12th grade member of the Varsity Softball Team was nominated by Coach Shadie Acosta. Eldridge, a 12th grade member of the Varsity Water Polo Team was nominated by Coach Paul Wallace. Both were chosen by the Jacket Backers board. Through April we played seven games. In those seven games Bailey went 15 for 20 with a .750 batting average with 14 RBI's. Her season batting average is .656 and she’s batting .683 with runners in scoring position. She had only 1 error in 20 games as our starting first baseman and does a beautiful job picking up off-throws from teammates to secure the outs. She’s quick and has range in her position and can dig-up even the toughest of throws “Bailey Wallace is a fantastic all-around player and person who is passionate about the game, a super competitor but also keeps success and failure in perspective. She works through adversity well, keeps her priorities at the forefront of her decisions, and also knows how to have fun! I am proud of the young woman that she is and the way she represents herself, her family and this softball program.” said Coach Acosta. During April in our four games at the Regional Championships Raena was the team leader on both offense (17 goals) and defense (11 steals) in spite of being double-teamed and triple-teamed the entire tournament. In response to her performance she was named 1st team All-Region and finished 3rd in the MVP voting at Regionals. She also helped our team secure a birth at the State Championships. “Raena has been the heart and soul of this team for four years. She has led the team with integrity. I know coaches who have coached for 30 years and never had an athlete of Raena's caliber. She will be greatly missed next year.” said Coach Wallace. If you would like more information about this topic, or to schedule an interview, please contact Steve Arenas. |

Jackets Stun WT White, Advance To Round 3!
The Rockwall Yellowjackets entered Saturday’s Game 2 with their backs against the wall in a win or go home matchup against WT White. The Jackets just needed that one spark. Nick Colacecchi delivered! The Jackets trailed 1-0 until Colacecchi delivered a solo shot to get the Jackets going. The Jackets responded with 4 runs in the 4th inning and never looked back. The mojo never left the Jackets for the remainder of the series! “They weren’t tight or nervous. Just frustrated and pressing big-time. Colacecchi’s solo to start the 4th broke the ice and the bats heated up. You could feel the momentum swing our way some when we forced a 3rd game ” said Head Coach Jeff Payne. Game 3 was a different story. The Jackets exploded for 14 runs in the 1st inning and the rest was history. The Jackets won the series 2-1 and will advance to play Irving Nimitz beginning Thursday at Grapevine High School. Game 1 first pitch will be at 7:30 p.m. The Jackets have been flying under the radar most the season. They haven’t been winning with style points, but rather with just sound baseball and thats exactly what Coach Payne likes to see. “We haven’t really talked about any of that though. Just playing ball and grinding it out. Not a lot of style points for us this year. Faced a lot of #1 arms during district, so being in low-scoring, close games late is something we are comfortable with.” The Jackets will face Irving Nimitz who also completed a 3 game series against Belton. However, once you reach the 3rd round nothing comes easy and Coach Payne is well aware of that. “Nimitz has a Texas Tech pitcher, a DBU bat, some experienced seniors, and a sharp baseball coach. It won’t be easy and we know it isn’t supposed to be. We will have to play real well to beat those guys.” Don’t forget all games will be streamed live at www.rockwallisd.com! Go Jackets! Rockwall High School Jacket Backers March “Meador Auto Athletes of the Month”
Rose Njoku receives “Meador Auto Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month” Award
The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers have selected Rose Njoku as the “Meador Auto Lady Jacket Athlete of the Month”. Rose, a 11th grade member of the Varsity track Team was nominated by Coach Will McCrary and chosen by the Jacket Backers board. At the Jacket Classic track meet on Feb. 14, Rose set a new personal best mark for herself with a jump of 5'6", winning the event, and tying the meet record. Her jump also ties the school record. The following week Rose broke her personal best mark again and the School Record by jumping 5'8". Two meets two wins. “Last year as a sophomore, Rose didn't have the best season because of an injury. She was able to salvage it somewhat and still qualified for the regional meet. This year she started the season off higher than she left off last season. Rose is a very gifted athlete and their seems to be no cap on the potential that she has. I am looking for bigger things out of Rose this season.” said Coach McCrary. Eight Jacket Swimmers Named to All-Region Team
Eight RHS swimmers and divers have earned 25 spots on the Region 3-6A All-Region team for he 2014-2015 season. "Our region is arguably the toughest in the state and the swimming was faster this year than it ever has been before. So, to make the All-Region 3-6A swimming and diving team is no simple feat. Perormances that would have earned podium finishes at State in recent years wouldn't have even made this year's Region 4-6A All-Region team. So, this is a well-deserved honor for these athletes," commented Coach Paul Wallace. RHS Members of 2014-2015 Region 3-6A All-Region Team:

RHS Track Team Results in the Chris Givens Relays
Yesterday the boys and girls track teams traveled to Wylie to take part in the annual Chris Givens Relays. It was a productive day overall and I was pleased with the performances we received from the kids. Right now, we are just trying to figure out how to put all of the pieces of the puzzle together and put some of the kids in different positions to see how they may do.
Team wise the Varsity Girls and JV Boys both placed second overall and the Varsity Boys took 4th and the JV Girls 6th overall. 17 of the boys also set 20 new PR's (Personal Records) and 13 girls set 16 new PR's. There few that equaled their PR's and several that were close to their best mark(s).
The biggest news of the day comes with a NEW SCHOOL RECORD being set in the RHS Girls Program. Rose Njoku broke the high jump record of 5' 6" that was held by Ryan Hill (2003) and Taylor Hill (2005). Rose Jumped a very impressive 5' 8". Rose is currently undefeated for the season in the high jump after 2 meets. Other Highlights of the day are:

RHS Swimmers win two Silvers at State, Girls team finishes 9th
Rockwall High School sent 5 swimmers to the 2015 UIL 6A Swimming & Diving Championships at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swim Center at the University of Texas in Austin. The team of one boy and 4 girls was the largest team ever sent to the event from Rockwall High School. Each of these swimmers qualified for the championship through their performances at the Region 3-6 Championships.
Four of the five RHS swimmers were competing in their first ever State Swimming Championships. Only Raena Eldridge had previous State experience. But, even with the inexperience, the Lady Jackets finished in 9th place in the team standings; the schools first-ever top-10 finish at the State Championships. All-American Senior Raena Eldridge started off the meet with a Silver Medal finish in the 200 Individual Medley. Her time of 2:02.30 was an All American Automatic time and a new Rockwall High School record. Raena was out-touched by 0.31 seconds by Jaden Bellina of Pearland who took Gold. Next up was Freshman Amanda Armstrong in her first State Final swim who finished 4th in the 50 Freestyle, just .33 seconds away from the podium. Amanda Armstrong's preliminaries time of 23.52 was an All-American Consideration time. |
The next swimming event was the 100 Butterfly with Raena Eldridge representing the Lady Jackets. This event was Raena's final individual event of her high school career finishing 2nd again in the 100 Butterfly with an All-American Consideration time of 55.11.
The Lady Jackets next took 6th place in the 200 Freestyle relay with a time of 1:38.27 behind swims from Amanda Armstrong, sophomore Jasmin Sani, sophomore Kayla Maxwell, and Raena Eldridge. The final two events of the day for the Jackets were the girls and boys 100 Backstroke where Amanda Armstrong finished 13th with a time of 58.01 and senior Noah Day finished 12th on the boys side with a time of 51.73. Coach Paul Wallace was pleased with the team's performance. "What an amazing state meet. We had some ups and downs, but were ultimately able to rally and keep our head in the game to come back in Finals and do better than expected!"

UIL State Wrestling Results
The Rockwall Boys and Girls Wrestling Team competed well over the weekend, all winning State Tournament matches and scoring team points. The boys ended in 13th place, missing the top 10 by 4 points, in a championship that included 93 competitive class 6-A teams. Senior Captain Andrew Hyde closed out his high school career earning his second consecutive state medal. Andrew placed 4th in one of the most competitive weight classes in the state. He ends his career as a 4 year varsity letterman, 4 time District and Regional placer, including District and Regional championship medals, and over 130 varsity wins. Andrew's two state tournament losses were to the eventual state runner-up and the third place finisher. Andrew has received a wrestling scholarship to continue wrestling next year at Lyon's college. Junior Brandon Smith placed 4th in the 106 pound bracket, losing in the Consolation Finals to the number one ranked wrestler in the state. Brandon has earned two varsity letters, been a District Runner-Up twice, and has qualified for the Regional Championships the last two seasons, earning a second place Regional finish to earn his trip to the UIL State Championships. Brandon's two loses were to the eventual State Champion at his weight and the third place finisher. Junior James Taylor received All-State honors after placing 6th in the 145 pound bracket. James was a District finalist and placed 3rd at the Region II Championships to earn his trip to the state tournament. James lost a tough match in the first round and came back on the consolation side to make the medal rounds. James also is a decorated member of our Rockwall Yellowjacket football team. Freshman Jackie Mote made Jacket wrestling history, representing our school and district in the girl's division. Jackie claimed a District Championship, placed 3rd at the Regional Tournament, earning a state tournament bid. Jackie recorded the first female victory in the consolation bracket. Both Jackie's state tournament loses were to the third and 5th place medalists. Thank you for supporting our athletes this season! Coach Pohorsky Coach McMahon |

Lady Jacket Soccer Updates
Tonight the Lady Jackets personified JFND! If you were not at the soccer field tonight, you missed an inspirational moment of greatness! I have never been more proud of a group of girls! We were down 2 goals in the first half to a powerhouse team, and the girls dug down deep and came together to show what it means to be Jackets. With 40 minutes of soccer left, the ladies stepped on the field determined. They found their first spark when sophomore Katie Givens hit a long shot into the back of the net beating the keeper. Fighting back, freshman Lauren Baker finished a shot bouncing around in goal. All tied up, the ladies had to fight off a powerful offensive attack. Once again, the defense stood strong and the midfield put the ball at the feet of Baker again and let her go to work! And work she did! T minus 60 seconds to go and the Lady Jackets scored their 3rd goal of the half to take the lead. With the clock winding down, the ladies stayed strong and kept their composure for the "come from behind"upset. It was a great night of soccer! So proud of this team the way they support and push each other! Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success. And success it was!!! The JV game vs Sachse was cancelled last night due to a power outage. The jackets were coming back from a 2-0 deficit just as the lights went out.

Lady Jackets Soccer Tournament Updates
On Tuesday, January 6th, the JV2 team, our first in school history, traveled to Hebron to play. It was a rough start for the inaugural team, but it was great to see the kids' hard work come to fruition! They were not victorious, but they were successful! Sophomores, Zully Zavala and Zola Bell, stood out as team leaders in the game. Zully was a defensive wall stopping anyone that got in her way, and Zola worked hard up front and had some great breakaways and good shots on goal On Thursday, January 8th, the JV1 and Varsity teams took the field in Mesquite and Highland Park, respectively. The JV played HP in the first game and fell short 1-0, but the ladies played hard, even dominating the field in the first half. Freshmen, Sabrina Calderon and Mackie Welch, were standouts in the game, dominating in the offense and goal, respectively. The varsity had a bit more of a struggle on Thursday against Austin's Lake Travis. Katie Givens scored a header off a Makaela de Laura corner kick, but the offense was unable to find the back of the net again. On Friday, January 9th, both teams hit the field again. This time the JV took on the host team Mesquite HS. The Lady Jackets dominated the game winning 5-2 with freshman, Macey Shipman, scoring a hat trick (for those not familiar with the phrase- she scored 3 goals. Sabrina Calderon scored a goal in the waning seconds of the game to help seal the deal! The varsity started off on a roll in their second game of the tournament with a goal from sophomore Nicole Pugsley off a corner kick. Then a few minutes later, Givens added her second goal of the tournament off a direct kick. Unfortunately, the ladies were unable to hold on to the lead, losing in the end 2-3. The girls came away with some very valuable information from the loss, and they were ready to apply it to the last team on Saturday. Friday evening, the JV2 team was back in action; this time against, South Grand Prairie. The loss from Tuesday, still on their minds, the ladies wanted to see improvements in their game and they did. SGP scored an amazing goal to open up the game. The Lady Jackets gave up one more goal the rest of the game, but were unable to reach the back of the net themselves. However, at the end of the game, and without allowing a goal in the 2nd half, the ladies were very proud of the strides they had made in such a short time. |
On to Saturday, January 10th, the varsity Lady Jackets took on their final opponent of the weekend. With their first victory on their minds, the ladies fought a hard battle against a very strong program who was in the final four of the state tournament just two years ago. The ladies determined to put together all they had learned from the first two games, got the game winning goal from freshman, Lauren Baker. Both goalkeepers, Sydney Smith and Kristina Patterson also recorded their first shutout of the new season! While closer to home, the JV jackets were looking to advance to a hardware game if they could beat Lake Highlands; THEY DID! And on to North Mesquite. The score was 0-0 in the second half when North Mesquite got a breakaway and took the lead with 12 minutes left in the game. The ladies were not ready to accept this, so junior Erin Buttitta took control and put the ball in the back of the net beating the NM keeper to tie up the game. The game ended in a tie, so the Lady Jackets went to penalty kicks! Needless to say, JFND was in action, and the ladies left Mesquite with a 3rd Place trophy. |

Rockwall's fourth quarter heroics fall short to Spring Westfield, 43-38
GEORGETOWN — Xavier Castille did a little bit of everything, but Rockwall still fell to Spring Westfield 43-38 in the Class 6A, Division II, Region II semifinals. The senior wide receiver caught 14 passes for 128 yards, ran for 88 yards on 14 carries and scored a potential game-winning touchdown on a trick play with 7:28 remaining.
Castille took a direct snap and fired a backward pass to quarterback Will Reed, who was lined up as a wide receiver. Reed then waited and fired a pass back to Castille, who followed a legion of blockers on his way to a 31-yard touchdown.
Spring Westfield countered with Tyrie Cleveland’s 72-yard game-winning touchdown reception with 2:38 remaining.
Rockwall’s undefeated season came to an end, while Spring Westfield will play rival Spring in the regional final.
Spring Westfield was the better team late in both halves and Rockwall saw a lead quickly evaporate late in the second quarter.
Jacob Viquez had given Rockwall a 24-14 lead on a 28-yard field goal with 3:45 remaining in the second quarter before Spring Westfield went to work.
Rockwall attempted an onside kick after the field goal and Spring Westfield promptly drove 61 yards in six plays, reaching the end zone on a 27-yard touchdown pass from Dillon Sterling-Cole to Eric Pouncy with 2:14 left in the half.
Jeremy Edwards snagged an interception for Spring Westfield on the ensuing possession and returned it to the 21-yard line.
Two plays later, Sterling-Cole found Pouncy again to give the Broncos their first lead of the game, 27-24.
Spring Westfield then added an insurance touchdown after bad snap by Rockwall was recovered at the 11-yard line by defensive lineman Malcolm Willis.
Sterling-Cole then tossed his fourth touchdown pass of the quarter, this time an 8-yard strike to Steven McGrough.

Yellowjackets Are District Area Champions
SNAPSHOT: Rockwall 48, Jesuit 27 WYLIE — With 2,000-yard rusher Chris Warren watching from the sideline, the Rockwall Yellowjackets needed a boost in Saturday’s playoff rematch with Jesuit. The Jackets advance to the Class 6A Division II semifinals next week to face either Pflugerville Hendrickson or Spring Westfield. Castille scored on a 45-yard catch and 34-yard run in the first half, but put the Jackets ahaead for good in the third period with a 69-yard run, after catching a 75-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the second half. Castille finished the game with 172 yards on seven catches and 135 rushing yards on seven carries. Will Reed passed for 211 yards and three scores, while Tamba Juanah (26-109) and A.J. Blacknall (110 yards, 2 TDs) gave Rockwall three rushers with more than 100 yards. Jesuit quarterback Bo Schneider completed 29-of-52 passes for 469 yards and three touchdowns, but was picked off three times after throwing just five total interceptions prior to Saturday. WFAA HS Recap Week 9: Running backs rule Class of 2015
McKinney North's Ronald Jones, Plano West's Soso Jamabo, South Oak Cliff's Jordan Stevenson and Rockwall's Chris Warren already have 5,887 yards with 90 touchdowns. How are these four guys doing?
Each are concentrating on programs with high state playoff hopes, but they’re regular social media trenders with recruiting buzz. The are all ranked in the Top 25 nationally for the Class of 2015. Jones is the most solid commit to Oklahoma State. Stevenson has committed to Texas but still is being courted by many. Jamabo has winked at Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor, Ohio State, Notre Dame (Kelly and assistant Tony Alford at game with open date) and was flirting with Mississippi this week. Jamabo took an official visit to UCLA last week. Good luck in figuring out where he will end up. He may go where he can play basketball to. He’s a guard who’s a cross between Ray Allen/Stephen Curry (pick your generational comparison). Rockwall’s Warren narrowed his list last month to Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Texas and Texas Tech and his mom (an engineer) said that’s helped calm the recruiting craziness quite a bit. The son of former Dallas and Seattle running back Chris Warren, the younger Warren is serious in completing the rigorous all the Stanford application process and said this summer he’ll make a signing Day decision. The Farm is hopeful because that’s exactly what Coppell defensive end Solomon Thomas did last season before announcing his decision with tape on his glasses to go with Nerd Nation. And Thomas and Warren actually have pretty similar personalities: Very even despite all the hoopla and expectations. Your recruiting evaluation tip on running backs: If they have measurables of decent size and speed, check how they change direction. It all has to be below the waist. If a runner dips a shoulder in the least to change directions, that’s seen as a huge red flag. Sort of like a hitch in a hitter’s swing. Eventually it’s an indicator of lack of speed and leg strength to keep rising in levels of competition. WFAA High School Sports By: David McNabb October 25, 2014 8:07 AM CST |
Who is Xavier Castille? In the eyes of Rockwall's Rodney Webb, the best player he has ever coached
|
Over the last 12 seasons at Royse City, Mesquite Horn and now Rockwall, Rodney Webb has coached a lot of big-time college recruits. That includes current Rockwall running back Chris Warren, who has a scholarship offer from just about every school with a football program.
But none of those guys, even the one player who is now in the NFL, is the best player that Webb has coached. The best pure high school football player, the guy who can always be counted on to be doing exactly what he’s supposed to be doing, is senior receiver Xavier Castille. “That’s not something that I just throw around,” Webb said. “It doesn’t mean he should be the most highly recruited. But he’s the best football player.” Versatility plays a part in that. Castille is leading Rockwall (6-0, 3-0 in 11-6A), the No. 8 team in SportsDay’s Class 6A area rankings, in receiving for the third straight season. In just six games, he has 31 catches for 636 yards – a whopping 20.5 yards per reception – and 8 touchdowns. He also has 20 carries for an 8-yard average. Over the last three seasons, Castille has run the ball, caught the ball, thrown the ball (two touchdown passes as a quarterback) and played safety. He can do just about anything. Except get a scholarship offer from one of the five power conferences: the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC. Castille (5-11, 195), who has offers from schools such as Tulsa, UT-El Paso, New Mexico and Connecticut, doesn’t fit the mold of a big, powerful receiver or a speedy slot guy. But Castille does have speed. He ran a 4.38 40-yard dash at a combine in the spring, and Webb said Castille reminds him of a bigger, more physical version of Taylor Gabriel, who caught 90 passes as a senior at Horn in 2008 and was lightly recruited. Gabriel (5-8, 167) played for Abilene Christian and has caught 11 passes this season as a rookie with the Cleveland Browns. Castille said a lot of big schools have started to talk with him, and that’s exciting. But he said he’s staying focused on his Rockwall team and expects everything will fall into place. “For the team this year,” he said, “it’s really about family and looking out for our guys and the constant grind that we all go through together.” Castille and junior quarterback Will Reed, who has thrown 18 touchdown passes with only one interception, are together a lot. They sit in the same spot on the bus before each game, and just before they get to the stadium, they push play on “Superstar” by rapper Lupe Fiasco. “We just kind of have that connection,” Reed said. “If he’s covered one-on-one, I know I can take that chance because he’s usually going to come out on top.” Castille has often been on top, dating back to when he was playing football in the Rockwall Youth Sports Association. His immediate goal is to beat Sachse (4-2, 2-1), which Rockwall faces Thursday night. His longterm goal, the same one he had as a 10-year old, is to play college football and get a shot at the NFL. “I can’t wait to play at the next level,” Castille said. “Right now I have an opportunity to play on Saturdays, and if I keep going right, one day I might get to play on Sundays.” Dallas Morning News By Matt Wixon, mwixon@dallasnews.com Published: 15 October 2014 11:46 PM |

Chris Warren Selected Class 6-A Week 8 Ford Texas HS Football Player of the Week
Congratulations to RHS RB #25 Chris Warren for being selected as the Class 6-A Week 8 of Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week. It was business as usual for Rockwall’s Chris Warren last Thursday. The Yellowjackets pasted Sachse, 56-21, moving to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in District 11-6A. The bruising 6-2, 230-pound tailback busted through the Sachse defense for 312 yards and four TDs (37, 54, 70 and 23 yards) on 27 carries, averaging 11.6 yards a pop! Chris helped the Yellowjackets cruise to a 28-7 lead after one period, scoring two TDs. “Chris set the tone early and was the difference,” says Coach Rodney Webb. Chris added scores in the second and fourth quarters as 7-0 Rockwall inched closer to the district championship. If Warren’s name rings a bell, it should. His father, Chris Warren, was a standout running back for the NFL’s Cowboys and Seahawks. This season, the younger Warren has rushed for 1,262 yards and scored 20 TDs after missing a chunk of his junior season with a knee injury. Chris, the No. 17-rated running back in his class by one scouting service, isn’t hurting for scholarship offers as UT, Tech, Oregon, Stanford, Iowa and Washington are the leading suitors. A straight-A student, Chris is a fixture on the school’s high honor roll. In spring, he runs track, having qualified for the regional meet in 100 meters and long jump. “Chris has the physical attributes of a big back that you normally won’t see,” says Coach Webb. “He has a great work ethic and is even-keeled for such an accomplished player.”
