Gaertner, a 12th grade member of the Varsity Volleyball Team was nominated by Coach Damon Wilson and chosen by the Jacket Backer board. In a key match between the only two undefeated teams in district (Rockwall and Sachse) Kelsey led the team in digs and kills as they rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win the match 3 games to 2. Kelsey had 26 digs and 17 kills in the match. She also contributed a stuff block and did not miss a serve in a 5 game match. "Kelsey is a great leader on and off the court. When the team really needs her she is at her best." said Coach Wilson If you would like more information about this topic, or to schedule an interview, please contact Eric Eldridge. |
Chris Warren Receives “Meador Auto Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month” Award
The Rockwall High School Jacket Backers have selected Chris Warren as the “Meador Auto Yellowjacket Athlete of the Month”. Warren, a 12th grade member of the Varsity Football Team was nominated by Coach Rodney Webb and chosen by the Jacket Backers board. Chris accounted for 795 yards and 13 TD's in Rockwall's four September victories, averaging 199 yards and over 3 TD's per game - all of this despite sitting out most of the 2nd half of three of the four games, due to the lopsided score. Coach Webb said about the selection, “Chris has had an incredible month of September. He helped lead the Jackets to their best start in 33 years, and he has put an exclamation point on any questions that people had about his ability to overcome last year's knee injury.” If you would like more information about this topic, or to schedule an interview, please contact Eric Eldridge. |

Demetre was the Yellowjacket Player of the Week for the August 29th game vs Denton Ryan. He recorded 3 sacks in the game, which is extremely rare for a defensive back. He also caused and recovered a fumble in the game. Demetre is someone who has overcome many obstacles in his life. He has been a dedicated and devoted team member this year. “Demetre has had a tremendous start to the season for us. His play-making abilities have helped take our defense to a much higher level of play.” said Coach Webb. Jackets explode in second half to rout L.D. Bell
ARLINGTON — It’s amazing how differently two halves of a football game can be. Rockwall and Hurst L.D. Bell played a back-and-forth first half Saturday, but the Yellowjackets totally dominated the second on the way to a 57-20 victory during the Southwest Showcase at AT&T Stadium. Rockwall (2-0) let a 21-3 lead slip away as Bell (0-2) got within 28-20 at halftime. But, the Jackets outscored the Blue Raiders by a 29-0 margin in the third quarter to put a big orange bow on the victory. Chris Warren led the way for Rockwall, scoring five total touchdowns, including four on the ground to go with 193 rushing yards on just 17 carries. In the first half, he was one side of an entertaining battle of runners, with Bell’s Daniel Dorsett picking up 131 yards in the first 24 minutes. However, when the Jackets exploded in the third period, Bell’s offense imploded and Dorsett gained just 23 yards in the second half to finish with 154 and a touchdown. The Blue Raiders picked up just 113 yards after intermission to finish with 346, while Rockwall amassed 504 in the contest. In the first few minutes of the game, it looked as if Rockwall would put it away by halftime, and certainly erased any concerns of another slow start following last week’s sputtering performance at Denton Ryan. On the Jackets’ third play from scrimmage, Warren bounced outside and sprinted past the Bell defense for a 66-yard score. Tony Pecora hit the first of his eight PATs to make it 7-0. Less than two minutes later, Warren struck again, this time on the first play following a Bell punt. His second score covered 39 yards for a 14-0 lead just four minutes into the game. Dorsett’s 52-yard run set up Bell’s first points – a 26-yard Tyler Dunlop field goal – but the Jackets responded almost immediately on the first of Will Reed’s three TD passes, a 13-yard connection with Wyatt Miller. It was Dorsett to Bell’s rescue again, setting up his own 5-yard scoring run with a 43-yard scamper to end the quarter with Rockwall holding a 21-10 lead. Early in the second, Bell made it 21-17, taking advantage of a Jacket fumble and turning it into points on Dominique Lawson’s 6-yard slant to Tacorian Howard. |

Warren made it 28-17 with a 3-yard run and Dunlop connected on a 39-yard field goal to bring it to 28-20. Pecora missed a long kick as time expired, leaving the Jackets’ lead at eight.
But fortunately, it was all Rockwall from that point. Warren scored from a yard out to make it 35-20, and – following Caleb Broach’s defensive stop of Bell’s fake punt – Will Reed hit Jay Galloway on the next play for a 43-yard score. Xavier Castille ran in the conversion to make it 43-20.
Midway through the period, Dante Thomas recovered a fumble for the Jacket defense, setting up Warren to score on a 12-yard swing pass from Reed. Castille closed out the scoring with a 17-yard run with five seconds to play in the third quarter.
Castille finished the game with 130 total yards (85 receiving) and a touchdown. Reed hit on 13-of-24 passes for 210 yards and three scores.
Rockwall will entertain its home crowd for the first time next Friday when the Jackets host Mesquite Horn (2-0) at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm.

Rockwall Yellowjackets defeat Denton Ryan Raiders 21-13
The Rockwall Yellowjackets football team is coming off a 21-13 victory over Denton Ryan on Aug. 29th. “We expect to be strong on defense this year, but limiting Ryan to less than 250 total yards was impressive,” Webb said. “Our defensive guys want their legacy to be tough, physical play.” Against Bell, Rockwall will be facing an offense led by junior running back Daniel Dorsett, who rushed for 231 and three touchdowns in a 48-35 loss to Keller Central. Dorsett also caught five passes for 36 yards. Bell is a “historically strong program,” Webb said. But Rockwall has its own offensive weapons. Senior running back Chris Warren rushed for 99 yards in his first game since going out with a knee injury last season. Wide receiver Jay Galloway scored two touchdowns and Xavier Castille had one. Junior quarterback Will Reed threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns. Gary Piña is a DMN neighborsgo copy editor and can be reached at 214-977-8531. |
